From November 11 to 15, 2019 workshop on Biostatistics was held within the “Doctoral Programs in Public Health and Social Services” Erasmus Project.
The workshop was hosted by the Gothenburg University, which is one of the partner universities involved in the Project.
The workshop was attended by the representatives of beneficiary universities, like Yerevan State Medical University, Yerevan State University, Tbilisi State University and University of Georgia are.
The last day of the workshop was devoted to the management meeting, which was attended by the representatives of all partner universities.
The workshop lasted 5 days, and its aim was to assist in development of the capabilities of the beneficiary universities in keeping and studying Biostatistics.
Day 1.
On the first day of the workshop the introduction to the week and to the University of Gothenburg, structure and educational programs of the University were presented to the attenders. That day the participants had an opportunity to study the master and PhD programs in Public Health and Social Work in the University of Gothenburg. The workshop day was also devoted to studying the curriculums in statistics and biostatistics the University undertakes in the mentioned programs.
The training programs the University periodically held were also presented to the participants of the workshop.
Day 2.
The second day of the workshop started with the advanced seminar on Biostatistics. During the seminar the attenders studied the main mechanisms and ways of keeping Biostatistics and analyzing them.
The attenders had a discussion on how each country of partner universities conduct their researches and record the dates for keeping the statistics, what kind of problems they faced while undertaking those procedures and what an advanced practice showed on solving those problems.
Day 3.
On the 3rd day of the workshop the participants studied the methodology of meta-analysis, which were common for using in Sweden practice.
The second part of the workshop’s day was devoted to overviewing national registers in Sweden and discussing the example from IVF research.
The trainers held a presentation on the registries of the Quality of Care as well.
By the end of the day the participants of the workshop had a study visit to the Register center of Gothenburg and had an opportunity of seeing in practice the application of registration mechanisms and procedures and to discuss with the specialists their work and other issues they were interested in.
Day 4.
On the 4th day of the workshop the attenders studied the propensity score matching methodology and discussed the ways and mechanisms of its application. After the discussion the attenders had a free time for getting prepared for the last day of the workshop, during which a visit and discussion with the master students of the Gothenburg University was organized.
Day 5.
The last day of the workshop started with the meeting with master students of Public Health at the Gothenburg University. The aim of the meeting was to present master courses at the universities the attenders of the workshop presented. All representatives of the universities held their presentations and discussed with the master students the possibilities of studying master or PhD courses in their universities.
The second part of the day the project management meeting was held. The representatives of all partner universities responsible for the project’s management and administrative issues attended the meeting.
At the meeting the following topics were discussed:
- the PhD courses and their initial structures,
- the modules entailed in the structure of the courses,
- the modules thought by the faculty of the partner universities (exchanged modules),
- further implementation of the project, next tasks and objectives,
- financial issues,
- administrative issues, like documental work (timesheets, international mobility reports, other reports),
- dissemination of the project.
By the end of the workshop the participants got an agreement on the next trainings and their initial dates of holding.
